Report

Killingworth's first Cup Final and what a belter  . Northern Football Alliance V The Wearside League , two teams that hadn't met each other but both justifiably deserving to be there.
Killingworth started the brighter , moving the ball with more confidence and finding  space  easily . A verbal broadside from Prudhoe manager Tony Boakes  brought his players to life and a couple of strong tackles felt by Killy's Mickey Bowman saw the Tynedale outfit up and running.
The first half belonged to Killingworth, better finishing would have given Killy a deserved lead but Prudhoe dug in and defended well.
The second half was more even and like all good Cup finals the physical effort from both teams was starting to show , cramp had set in, stop starting the game and extra time was looking on.
An excellant crowd had turned up and with the game now looking more even it was survival of the fittest . I don't think anyone left the ground as it was hard to guess the outcome . It now looked like one goal would win it and possibly from fresh legs off the bench. Extra time.
Prudhoe brought on young Kalimba Malik who went straight to wide right , his pacy foot work was causing Killy problems , a jinky run into the box slipping past two defenders and slipping  his shot under John Mordey  , finding the bottom corner for a well dispatched goal.
Tiredness was evident and a goal at that stage would have killed most teams off but Killy dusted themselves down and took the game to Prudhoe . A cross from the right by 'never say die' Patterson squirmed across the six yard line Callaghan was once again in the right place to slot it home. Not a classy finish by any standards but timed to perfection!
The second half of extra time saw both teams give it there all and I think they would all agree that the penalties couldn't come soon enough. They had gave everything and it was now to tight to call.
John Mordey Killy keeper stepped up to carry the responsibility . John has had an excellant season , like all great keepers there is an excentricity about them that brings the best out of them during a vital moment.John is no exception ,saving his first three brought premature jubilation to the squad , thinking they had won the Cup sprinting to congratulate the Hero. There was still a penalty to take and Terry Giocochea stepped up to finish the night and give Killingworth there prize.
It was a fine game played with great spirit and everyone stayed till the end . Prudhoe played their part to the full and all credit . Killy had to come back and come back quick which they did so on that I think they just edged the game .
Well done Killy..
